Joe Ritenour was foundational to the Laurel Brigade Law Group. Joe died suddenly in June 2013, at the age of 62, leaving behind a legacy of superior legal representation, community impact, and many grateful clients.
Joe was born in Leesburg and attended Loudoun County High School. He graduated from Hampden Sydney College and the University of Virginia School of Law.
In 1976, Joe established his own law firm in Leesburg and from that day on, served the legal needs of the local community, focusing primarily on criminal law, real estate, business law and personal injury. Joe partnered with Dan Travostino from 1985-1991, and later with Rhonda Paice and Chris Mougin-Boal to form Ritenour Paice & Mougin-Boal in 2004.
He was involved in several landmark representations and decisions throughout the years, including that of the Virginia Toll Road Corporation in its ultimately successful quest to build the Dulles Greenway. Joe was named by New Dominion magazine as one of the 50 most powerful people in Northern Virginia in the early 90’s, a distinction based primarily on his real estate development work and service on the Loudoun County Planning Commission.
Always involved in the community in which he grew up, Joe helped launch Leesburg Today, a local newspaper, and was active as a basketball coach and board member at the former Notre Dame Academy, where his children attended school. Joe had many other professional endeavors, including owning multiple title companies, a record label, and several restaurants. He served as a judge for the University of Virginia’s moot court and mock trial competitions.
Joe was nominated for the Town of Leesburg’s prestigious George C. Marshall Award, and was for many years voted best lawyer by the readers of Leesburg Today in its annual “Best of Loudoun” poll.
